Retirement

Retirement board - all inclusive $350/month
(additional $150/month if stall is requested)

For our retired horses we offer pasture board.
We have found over the years that the horses kept in this mild-climate seem to prefer outdoor accommodations as opposed to the box stall that most have grown accustomed to.
Having open roaming space available at all times (especially with our somewhat hilly terrain) gives a senior horse that extra natural movement and exercise that they need to keep their bodies in the best condition possible.
Run-in sheds 12'x36'are provided in each paddock to provide the perfect amount of shade and shelter

Our retired horses are both young and old and are of many different breeds and sex. We keep the retired horses in small herds of 2-5 depending on their compatibility. They are introduced slowly into their new herds to ensure an easy and seamless transition to their new equine retirement communities.

Grooming is included for our retirees. Not only does it keep our retirement horses clean and comfortable, it provides us with an opportunity to really get to know your retired horse – where and how do they like being scratched? Where are the scars and bumps that were previously there and are there any new ones? Are they usually sensitive in this area or is this new? Grooming is a bonding activity in the wild and so it is during equine retirement. They will be properly pampered with nice cool baths given as often as possible during the warmer months as well.

To add to the pampering, equine massage therapy will be provided at least once a month by our Certified Equine Massage Therapist, Kiersten Eckstrom. Once again, this allows us to get to know your horse on a more comprehensive level – identify new “knots” or tensions, track range of motion in joints, and obtain a detailed knowledge of each horse’s musculature and skeletal structures so the slightest changes are known.

Free choice hay is offered at all times.
We supply a grain supplement (Triple Crown) fed twice a day
Any medications or additional supplements supplied by the owners will be administered by us as directed.

While your retired horse is here we arrange for farrier services, yearly vet and dental check ups. We hold your horse, free of charge, while these services are being provided.
We keep our equine family on a very careful parasite management system that includes bi monthly paste worming using the most updated and proven rotation to make sure we offer the best protection.
If your horse is in need of more extensive veterinary needs, and you as the owner approve it, we are within 42 miles of the University of Tennessee Veterinary Hospital and receive emergency on-site care from Countryside Veterinary Services .

We know that making the decision to retire your horse is a tough one. We keep you updated with pictures and videos as well as personal phone calls and/or e-mails detailing your horse’s progress. If you have any specific requests or requirements, feel free to contact us and we will make it a point to oblige the needs of you and your retired horse.
